President's Message

To Rodeo Fans, Sponsors and Contestants:

Welcome to the 28th edition of the Sundre Pro Rodeo. We're getting bigger and better every year and that is due to the participation of people like yourselves. Because of this participation and growth, and the support and numbers of professional cowboys who enter our rodeo, we've elected to bring an additional stock contractor on board this year. Our main contractor is still the renowned Franklin Rodeo Company, and our hats are off to Shane and Kelly for the great stock they bring us every year, and this year is no exception. To our rodeo fans, thanks for supporting us by attending the performances and making this a great, fun weekend for you and your family. Thank you to the athletes who choose to enter this rodeo and make it the classic, professional sporting event that it is. Thank you to our sponsors, without your support this rodeo would cease to exist, and we hope our fans take notice of your support of this community event and in turn support your business.

Rodeo is a celebration of our western heritage. It is also a competition that exhibits great athletes of both the human and animal world competing against one another doing what they both love to do, yet rodeo also exemplifies the cooperation that exists between human and animal in trying to keep that clock from ticking on.

Thank you to the rodeo committee members. Our committee members spend a lot of time and work ensuring that we produce the best possible rodeo we can, and if you happen to meet one of the committee members over the course of the weekend, please let them know they're appreciated. They're rodeo fans, too, but this is one rodeo very few of them get to see. Planning for the 2007 rodeo was underway just as soon as we closed the gates Sunday night on the 2006 edition. You may notice that every year improvements to these grounds are made. The improvements are primarily completed by members of our committee who willingly donate their expertise, time and money. In addition, I think our drill team deserves special recognition. These local girls, led by John and Sheldon, spend countless hours practicing, starting in February, and believe me; you are appreciated for adding color and opening our rodeo performances with gusto. Also, rodeo weekend is a community event and we have people from different local organizations and service clubs that assist in providing the rodeo fan with as good a product as you will find anywhere, and we appreciate your assistance. The Sundre Pro Rodeo is not just an event in the infield; there's the barbeques, the pancake breakfasts, the parade, and the bull bingo; just to name a few of the events that happen over the course of the weekend. I would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that we will be continuing with the 4th annual production of the Bulls and Wagons event the August long weekend.

If you live in this area, thanks for supporting your local Professional Rodeo. If you are new to this area, welcome to the Town of Sundre, the "little town with the big backyard", and we plan on celebrating, along with you, by Going Wild! And Going West! At the Sundre Pro Rodeo.
