Royal News
Have you ever heard the saying “we took a trip and never left the farm” well we are just a pair of farm girls that have been on one whale of a trip and only left the province once!
We were crowned on June 19, 2009 as the new Miss Rodeo Sundre and Sundre Rodeo Princess. We where both so excited to have the opportunity to represent our home town rodeo and community. We have been traveling around Alberta and into B.C. participating in Parades and Rodeo activities.
Our first couple weeks where very hectic! Our first appearance was at the Ponoka Stampede where we helped with the special needs rodeo. Following that we took part in the Airdrie Pro Rodeo Parade and Rodeo. Then off to the Calgary Stampede where we got to ride in their big Stampede Parade. We had quite the experience there from putting hot rollers in, in an alley because it was the only spot we could find a plug in for power, to putting corn starch on Megan’s white horse. But it was defiantly a great experience that we are not going to forgot for a long time. We also got the opportunity to tour around at the Calgary Stampede participating at pancake breakfasts, street dancing and lots of public instructions.
Following that it was time to load up the family and head on over to B.C, where we got the chance to be involved in the Armstrong Fair and Rodeo. We had a couple wonderful people supply us with two horses to ride in their parade, and a bulldogger lend us his horse to chase the cattle during the rodeo. While we were out there we stayed at the Martin’s house on the Shuswaps and did lots of tubing and knee boarding between rodeo appearances.
We attended the CFR in Edmonton; we participated in the ladies fashion show that raises money for the Cowboys Beneavin Fund. We were able to watch the rodeo and tour around the trade show for a couple of days. Meeting the Newly Crowned Miss Rodeo Canada and Miss Rodeo Canada Princess, as well as signing autographs for kids.
We have also been involved in some community events though out the year. We spent the day at the annual SPOG day in town. Where we met some sponsors as well as signed lots of autographs for people. Arleta attended the Food Drive that 4-H and Search and Rescue have been doing for a few years now. We will be attending the Museum’s family weekend event and would love to see everyone out there.
Our pageant for the new Miss Rodeo Sundre and Sundre Rodeo Princess is starting up right away.
